WARDOGS beta — over since 6 September, and what the Playtest app still says

The WARDOGS beta is over. The last test ended at 08:00 UTC on Sunday 6 September 2026 in the studio's own words, and the game has been on sale in Steam Early Access since 10 September 2026 at $39.99, so the route in today is the paid build rather than a test (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026; appdetails for app 1867240, read 5 October 2026). No further beta has been announced. The beta ran on a second Steam application, app 4809930, named “WARDOGS Playtest”, and that listing is still in Valve's data today: a reading of it in this page's own minute returned 1 account, against 226,379 on the retail app (Steam Web API for app 4809930 and for app 1867240, 00:15 UTC on 5 October 2026).

How to read this page. Every figure carries the day it was read, and the two Steam applications are named by app id wherever they appear, because “the player count” of this game is two different numbers depending on which one is being measured. The live readings were taken in the minute 00:15 UTC on 5 October 2026; the store and feed fields were read on 5 October 2026; the historical figures carry the day their own publisher gave them. Where no source states something — and progress carrying over is one of those — the blank is written down rather than filled in.

When is the WARDOGS beta?

There is no beta to join and no announced date for another one. The feed the studio owns carries the whole chain, and every entry in it is in the past tense: the Pre-Alpha Announcement of 7 June 2026, the pre-order post of 11 August that put the first closed beta on 21–23 August, the Closed Beta Schedule of 20 August, Beta Recap & Next Steps on 24 August, Closed Beta 02 on 1 September, the open-beta post of 5 September, and then the launch itself on 10 September 2026 (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026).

How heavily that chain is weighted towards the past is worth measuring rather than describing. The 60 newest items in the game's own Steam feed split exactly in half — 30 written by the studio, 30 carried in from other outlets — and the word “beta” appears in 8 of the 60, 7 of those the studio's own posts. “Playtest” appears in 12 (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026). Nothing in the newest 60 announces a test that has not happened yet.

The one forward-looking statement about testing that is still standing is on the sign-up page, and it is about scale rather than a date: “Slots are extremely limited as we scale up testing” (studio sign-up page, read 5 October 2026).

How many players did the WARDOGS beta peak at?

245,118 at once, on 5 September 2026. That figure comes from SteamDB and it arrives through an official pipe: SteamDB publishes its posts into the Steam news feed of the app it is measuring, so the sentence “WARDOGS Playtest has peaked at 245,118 concurrent players on 5 September 2026” sits on app 4809930's own feed, one item long (Valve news feed for app 4809930, read 5 October 2026).

Two things have to be said beside it. The first is that this is the playtest app's peak, not the retail game's: the betas ran on app 4809930, so a chart drawn from app 1867240 shows nothing for either beta weekend, which is exactly the blank that the Steam charts page records and this page answers.

The second is that SteamDB's number is one instrument's reading. The other number on the record for the same day belongs to wardogshub.gg's own live tracker, and it is 244,926 at 21:04 UTC on 5 September 2026 — 192 below SteamDB's, on the same day, from a different sampler (wardogshub.gg milestone page, read 5 October 2026). We did not read SteamDB's chart page itself: it answered this machine with HTTP 403 on 5 October 2026, the fifth day in a row it has, so SteamDB appears here only where SteamDB's own text was readable somewhere else.

Two samples, one day, 192 apart. The gap is our subtraction; what causes a gap like that between two collectors is not something either site states, and this page does not guess at it.

What time did the WARDOGS beta end?

08:00 UTC on Sunday 6 September 2026, published in advance rather than announced afterwards. The open-beta post of 5 September reads “Come break our servers — Until the Beta ends - Sunday at 08:00 UTC” (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026).

The last night of the test is the part that is easy to lose. That post went up at 21:08 UTC on Saturday 5 September 2026, which is 10 hours and 51 minutes before the published close, so the final stretch of Closed Beta 02 ran with the doors open after two days of gated access. The studio had ruled that out eight days earlier, in the 1 September post, under a heading of its own — “Why not an open beta?” — where the answer was that invitees would be added “in waves rather than opening the beta completely” (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026). The window is our subtraction from the post's own timestamp and the close time printed inside it, 21:08 UTC on Saturday 5 September 2026 to 08:00 UTC on Sunday 6 September 2026.

The first closed beta's dates are the studio's, not ours: 21–23 August 2026, announced on 11 August and closed out on 24 August with “This weekend's Closed Beta is over” (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026). The exact hours of that weekend are printed on the rival pages and not in the studio's posts, so they are not printed here as fact.

Can you still play the WARDOGS playtest?

The test, no. The sign-up route, yes — and that distinction is the whole answer. The studio's page at community.wardogs.com/signup/community still answers with HTTP 200 on 5 October 2026 and still prints “Want to join future WARDOGS Playtests?”, beside two buttons, “Sign Up with Discord” and “Sign Up with Steam”, and the line “We aren't running a typical AAA marketing ‘Beta’” (studio sign-up page, read 5 October 2026). Nothing on it promises a date.

So the practical answer is: you can put your name down for whatever test comes next, and you cannot get into one today. Both rival pages stop short of that second half. wardogs.site's beta page reads “Yes, the September beta is over” and sends the reader back to the paid game (wardogs.site, read 5 October 2026). wardogshub.gg's beta page states that “there is no beta, invite, key or sign-up between you and the game any more” — which is true of getting into the game, and is not the same statement as the sign-up page being gone (wardogshub.gg, read 5 October 2026). The page the studio left running is the thing this page adds to theirs.

Why does the WARDOGS Playtest still show up on Steam?

Because the listing exists and its store page does not. Asking Valve's interface for app 4809930 returns a full record, and asking for its store URL returns a 302 redirect to app 1867240, the retail game's page. That is a measurable difference between the two apps, and it is why the playtest still appears in libraries while the link that used to open it now lands on the game you can buy (playtest app URL and appdetails for app 4809930, read 5 October 2026).

The playtest's own record, field by field, as Valve returns it:

App 4809930, “WARDOGS Playtest”, read field by field on 5 October 2026 (appdetails). The retail app, 1867240, is in the last column, read the same day.

Two lines in that table are worth reading twice. The release field on Sep 16, 2026 is not a beta window and not a launch date: the playtest's last open night ended on 6 September and the game went on sale on 10 September, so the playtest listing's own date sits after both. It is a field Valve returns, printed here with the day it was read, and no source explains it. And the description fields are empty, which is the difference between a store page and a record: the app carries the name a player sees in a library and almost nothing else.

The studio named that app itself, in the one post that told players how to get the build early: “You can now pre-load ‘WARDOGS Playtest’. Check your Steam for access” (official Steam news, 20 August 2026).

Do you need a WARDOGS beta code or key?

No, and the studio said why in the post that opened pre-orders. Beta access came two ways: guaranteed by pre-ordering, or drawn from the Steam Playtest sign-up pool. The key route was closed deliberately, because “we have been capped on how many Steam Keys we can send externally, so we can no longer grant keys via the original signup process” (official Steam news, 11 August 2026, read 5 October 2026).

That sentence answers the whole family of code questions, and it is also why pre-ordering was the only guaranteed route: in the same post the studio wrote that pre-ordering lets it grant access “without fully opening the floodgates like an open beta would”, so it could predict launch-day numbers (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026). No key or code was required for either closed beta, and none can be redeemed for one today, because the tests are closed.

How do you sign up for the WARDOGS beta?

Through the studio's own sign-up page, which has been in the official posts since June 2026 and is still the address they print. Three of its lines describe how the whole test programme worked: sign up through Discord or Steam, wishlist the game on Steam, and join the game's Discord, on the grounds that the tests are small by design — “We aren't running a typical AAA marketing ‘Beta’ — we genuinely want players to get involved and share their feedback and bug reports” (studio sign-up page, read 5 October 2026; the same address appears in the studio's own Steam posts of 7 June, 16 June, 16 July and 17 July 2026).

The pinned Q&A on the game's Steam forum names the service behind that page: FirstLook (official pinned Q&A, posted 9 February 2026, last edited 10 September 2026, read 10 September 2026). What the studio has not published anywhere read for this page is a date for the next test, which is why the honest version of this answer is “sign up, and wait” rather than a schedule.

Does WARDOGS beta progress carry over?

Nothing published answers it, so this page leaves it open rather than inferring it. The pinned Q&A addresses the pre-alpha tests and nothing has been published to the contrary for the betas (official pinned Q&A, read 10 September 2026). The game's own progress rules are a separate and better-documented subject: Season 02 is dated 15 October 2026, and what a season boundary does to progress is read out of the studio's own material on the release-date page rather than answered twice here (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026).

What happened this week

None of it is beta news, and the reason to print it is that the question behind “is the beta over” is usually “is this game alive”. Every date below is from the studio's own feed, read 5 October 2026 (official Steam news).

  • 2 October — two hotfixes in a day. A security and stability hotfix was posted for 08:00 UTC with an hour of expected downtime, and an IR Goggles & CIWS balance hotfix followed at 15:39 UTC, disabling the IR Rangefinders in the vendor until Season 02 and cutting the CIWS's time to destroy the Havoc from about twelve seconds to about six. The second post says it needed no client download and no downtime (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026).
  • 30 September — update 0.1.2. A maintenance window at 08:00 UTC carried fixes for cash and XP exploits, a fix for the Windows 11 crash the studio files as WD-L020, and UI changes the studio says are intended to push traffic towards Infantry Mode and Low-Level servers (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026).
  • 26 September — three million copies and a nomination. “3 million copies sold in just over 2 weeks since launching into Early Access”, with a Golden Joystick Awards nomination for Best Early Access Game 2026 that the studio notes is community-voted (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026).
  • 22 September — Season 02 gets a date. The teaser post puts Season 02 on 15 October 2026 and carries no content list (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026).

Who else answers the WARDOGS beta question

Five places turn up for this word, and they are not answering the same question.

  • wardogs.site — the one rival with a page for this exact query: 27 URLs, nine pages in each of three languages, one of them “WARDOGS Beta Ended: How to Play Now”, which it dates to an update on 24 September 2026 (wardogs.site, read 5 October 2026). It carries the end time, the Early Access date and next steps sorted by which kind of player you are. What it does not carry is either Steam app id, the playtest app's own record, or any reading of the playtest app itself.
  • wardogs.wiki — asked for beta, playtest and “closed beta”, the wiki's search API returns zero results for all three terms (wardogs.wiki search API, read 5 October 2026). It is an item database, and a closed test is not an item.
  • wardogshub.gg — the deepest of the three on the history: a beta page it dates to 5 August 2026 with an update on 7 September 2026, plus a milestone post for the open night. It has both windows, the access rules, the systems Beta 02 was testing and its own live-tracker peak of 244,926 at 21:04 UTC on 5 September 2026 (wardogshub.gg beta page and milestone page, read 5 October 2026). It names the Playtest application as the app the betas ran on, and stops there: no app id, no store record, no current reading of it, and no mention of SteamDB's figure.
  • SteamDB — the source of the peak figure on this page, and not readable directly from here: its chart pages answered HTTP 403 on 5 October 2026, the fifth consecutive day. Its sentence survives because SteamDB publishes into the app's own Steam feed, and that is where it was read (read 5 October 2026).
  • Reddit — where the questions are and where the answers are not: both r/WarDogs and r/OfficialWARDOGS returned HTTP 403 to this machine on 5 October 2026, the same block as on 2, 3 and 4 October 2026. That is why no thread is quoted here and no vote count appears: the reply worth reading on a thread like this is the one voted to the top, and a vote total has moved by the time anyone reads it.

What the five have in common is the gap this page is for: none of them prints the two app ids beside each other, none of them opens the playtest app's own record, and none of them has read that app since the test ended.

LayerWhat is in it
Confirmed officially The first closed beta ran 21–23 August 2026, announced on 11 August with access guaranteed by pre-order or drawn from the Steam Playtest sign-up pool, keys having been closed off. The playtest app was named “WARDOGS Playtest” in the 20 August post, which also lifted the NDA and sent the first wave of invites. Closed Beta 02 was announced on 1 September with access “in waves rather than opening the beta completely”, naming server scaling and browsing, Twitch Drops, DLC entitlements, VOIP and the login queue as the systems under test. The test became open on 5 September at 21:08 UTC on Saturday 5 September 2026 and was published to end at 08:00 UTC on Sunday 6 September 2026. Early Access opened on 10 September 2026 at $39.99. Season 02 is dated 15 October 2026, three million copies were reported on 26 September with a Golden Joystick nomination, update 0.1.2 landed on 30 September, and the two hotfixes on 2 October. The sign-up page, its two buttons and its warnings are still served. Valve's data returns a full record for app 4809930 and a 302 redirect from its store URL to app 1867240.
Read off third parties or store fields SteamDB's peak of 245,118 on 5 September 2026, carried in app 4809930's own Steam feed. wardogshub.gg's own tracker peak of 244,926 at 21:04 UTC the same day, and its account of the two windows, the access rules and the open last night. wardogs.site's account of the end time and the next steps. The playtest app's release field of Sep 16, 2026 and its recommendation count of 1,162 — Valve's own returned values, neither explained by Valve. Reddit and SteamDB themselves were unreadable from this machine on 5 October 2026 and are recorded as unread rather than paraphrased.
Calculated here, not published anywhere 192 = 245,118 − 244,926, the distance between the two samplers on 5 September 2026. 10 hours and 51 minutes, from the open-beta post's own timestamp to the published close. Six days between the game's launch and the playtest app's own release field, and ten days between the beta's published close and that field. Eight items carrying “beta” and twelve carrying “playtest” among the 60 newest items in the game's feed, and the feed's exact 30/30 split between the studio's posts and everyone else's. One live reading of each app, taken in the same minute (00:15:38, 00:15:41 and 00:15:44 UTC for the playtest app).
Not confirmed Any date for a further test. Any reason for the release field on app 4809930. Any explanation of the 192 gap between the two trackers. Whether progress earned in a beta carried into Early Access. Any console test, in either direction.

The list that usually gets left out, checked on 5 October 2026 and written down as blanks rather than guesses:

  • A date for the next WARDOGS test. Not on the studio's Steam feed, not on the sign-up page, not in the pinned Q&A. The newest dated item anywhere in that chain is Season 02 on 15 October 2026, which is a season.
  • Beta progress carrying over. No post read for this page says whether any of it did. The pinned Q&A covers the pre-alpha tests only.
  • What the playtest app's release field means. Sep 16, 2026 sits after the game launched and after the beta closed, Valve returns it as that app's release date, and no source explains it.
  • SteamDB's sampling policy. Its chart page returned HTTP 403 from this machine on 5 October 2026 and every day since 1 October 2026, so the interval behind 245,118 cannot be quoted here; what is quoted is SteamDB's own sentence, in Valve's feed.
  • The exact hours of the first closed beta. The studio published dates for it, 21–23 August 2026, and not times; the times in circulation are third-party readings of a schedule image.
  • Any console beta. Every test to date ran on the Steam build, and the console question has its own page here rather than a second answer on this one.

Common questions

Is the WARDOGS beta over?

Yes. The studio's own post on the game's Steam feed reads “Until the Beta ends - Sunday at 08:00 UTC”, which puts the close at 08:00 UTC on Sunday 6 September 2026, and the game has been on sale in Steam Early Access since 10 September 2026 at $39.99 (official Steam news and the appdetails call for app 1867240, read 5 October 2026). No further test has been announced on any surface read for this page.

Can you still play the WARDOGS playtest?

Not the test itself: the servers went down at 08:00 UTC on Sunday 6 September 2026 and the build was a pre-launch snapshot. Two things do still exist. The playtest listing is still in Valve's data — app 4809930, named “WARDOGS Playtest” — and the studio's sign-up page is still served, asking players to sign up for future playtests (appdetails for app 4809930 and the studio's sign-up page, both read 5 October 2026). What is not there is a running test to join.

When is the next WARDOGS beta?

None is announced. The newest dated item on the game's own feed is Season 02 on 15 October 2026, which is a content season rather than a test (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026). The sign-up page still takes names for future playtests and says “Slots are extremely limited as we scale up testing”, which is the only forward-looking statement about testing the studio has left standing (sign-up page, read 5 October 2026).

What time did the WARDOGS beta end?

08:00 UTC on Sunday 6 September 2026, in the studio's own words: “Until the Beta ends - Sunday at 08:00 UTC” (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026). That is the published end of Closed Beta 02, the last test the game had. The first closed beta was announced as 21–23 August 2026, and its own recap post opens with “This weekend's Closed Beta is over” (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026).

How many players did the WARDOGS beta peak at?

The only figure attached to the app the betas ran on is 245,118 concurrent players on 5 September 2026, published by SteamDB into app 4809930's own Steam feed (Valve news feed for app 4809930, read 5 October 2026). It sits 192 above the 244,926 peak that wardogshub.gg's own live tracker recorded on the same day, and the two are samples from different instruments rather than a sequence (wardogshub.gg milestone page, read 5 October 2026).

Do you need a WARDOGS beta key or code?

No, and none was handed out that way. The studio wrote on 11 August 2026 that it had been “capped on how many Steam Keys we can send externally, so we can no longer grant keys via the original signup process”, and that beta access would come “randomly via the native Steam Playtest signup process” or be guaranteed by pre-ordering (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026). Anything offering a WARDOGS beta code today is offering something the studio says does not exist.

Does WARDOGS beta progress carry over?

Nothing published answers this for the betas. The pinned developer Q&A says the same thing about the earlier pre-alpha tests, and no post read for this page states what happens to beta progress in either direction, so it is recorded here as a blank rather than filled in (official pinned Q&A, read 10 September 2026; official Steam news, read 5 October 2026). What is on the record for progress is seasonal: Season 02 arrives on 15 October 2026 (official Steam news, read 5 October 2026), and the release-date page carries the per-season reset question separately.

Why does the WARDOGS Playtest still show up on Steam?

Because the listing was never taken down, even though its store page no longer resolves. Requesting /app/4809930/ returns a 302 redirect to the retail app's page, whose own canonical URL is app 1867240, while Valve's appdetails still answers for 4809930 with the name, a release field reading Sep 16, 2026 and 1,162 recommendations (playtest app URL and appdetails for app 4809930, read 5 October 2026). Our reading of that app's live endpoint in the game's own minute is 1 account (Steam Web API for app 4809930, read 00:15 UTC on 5 October 2026).

Sources for every figure above: the studio's own Steam news feed for the beta chain, the open-beta post and the weekly items; Valve's appdetails for app 1867240 and for app 4809930, plus the playtest app URL for the redirect; the Steam Web API count for app 1867240 and for app 4809930 for the two live readings; Valve's news feed for app 4809930 for SteamDB's peak, with wardogshub.gg's own milestone page beside it; the studio's sign-up page; and the pinned Q&A thread on the game's Steam forum. All read on 5 October 2026, except the two live readings, taken in the minute 00:15 UTC on 5 October 2026, and the pinned Q&A's lines, which carry their own last-edit day.
